Planning for High-Impact Threats to Critical Infrastructure

The InfraGard National ElectroMagnetic Pulse Special Interest Group (EMP SIG) addresses any high-impact threat that could affect critical infrastructure nationwide for more than a month, including manmade or natural EMPs,  geomagnetic disturbances (GMDs), cyber attacks, or coordinated physical attacks. Each year since 2011, the EMP SIG has co-hosted a conference with the Policy Studies Organization and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on the first Friday of December at the Dupont Summit. This year, they also are planning a tabletop exercise on Thursday, December 4. The Friday conference sessions will be webcast live and recorded.

The EMP SIG is a national InfraGard initiative. InfraGard is a public-private partnership with the FBI to protect the critical infrastructure and key resources in the United States. The mission of the EMP SIG is to inform communities how to mitigate the threat of long-term failure of life-sustaining infrastructures. The EMP SIG is available to help local communities become more self-sustaining by providing national experts in infrastructure protection and preparedness.

For more information on this upcoming “by-invitation-only” tabletop exercise, visit the EMP SIG section of the National InfraGard secure website, or contact the exercise manager, Dana Reynolds, at dana.reynolds@state.co.us. Those who are not already members are welcome to join InfraGard and the EMP SIG by registering at InfraGard.org.
