What is podcasting?
Podcasting is the online publishing of audio files in a way that allows for the subscription–like syndication and distribution as it becomes available, using RSS feeds.
Podcasting can be thought of as an audio magazine subscription, in that a subscriber receives audio programs without having to get them, and can listen to them at leisure.
What are RSS feeds?
RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication (among other things), provides you with a new way of keeping on top of DomesticPreparedness.com news.
How do I access the feeds?
You will need special software to access RSS feeds and to set up automatic downloads of podcasts. RSS news readers allow you to view the service you select in one place and, by automatically retrieving updates, stay current with new content soon after it is published. For podcasts, Apple’s free iTunes automates downloads and syncing with iPod players. Another free podcast program, iPodder, works with a variety of portable players. Odeo is a Web-based podcast player. After setting up your news reader, you will be ready to use our RSS feeds. To subscribe to one or more feeds below, right–click on one of the channels and select “Copy Shortcut” or “Copy Link Location” to copy the location (URL) of the service. Follow the instructions for your particular news reader, and then paste this location wherever it asks for the location of the service you wish to subscribe to.
